Multi- point locks explained

June 27th 2018

We understand there’s sometimes an information overload when it comes to locks and that you might not always understand some of the terminology used when buying a new door.

So in this week’s blog we’re going to give you a quick overview of the lock mechanism used in every Residor, so that when it comes to buying your new door you’ll know exactly what you’re getting.

At Residor we want to be sure that we are offering you a high security lock which gives you the best possible protection to ensure that violent force attacks are ineffective. It’s for this reason that EVERY Residor GRP Composite Door is fitted with an ERA Lock Mechanism as standard.

Let’s take a look at why….

The ERA multipoint lock has three locking points along the edge of the door. To put this into simple terms for you, these points are made up of two hooks located at the top and the bottom of the lock strip and a 22mm central deadbolt to give you the maximum security you need.

The locking points are controlled and engaged when the handle is lifted and it’s this action that secures them into the frame. This locking mechanism is extremely secure as it locks in a number of places, so there are no vulnerable areas.

TOP TIP: Always make sure you engage the full multi-point lock at all times to prevent any burglary from happening. To do so you will need to lift the handle and turn the key to fully secure the door into place.

ERA Lock paired with Ultion as standard

Every ERA locking mechanism supplied by Residor is paired with an Ultion 3 star diamond rated cylinder as standard.

Accompanying the ERA lock with the Ultion Cylinder allows us to offer you with Diamond Standard Security which will give you the best protection you need to secure your home from any opportunistic burglars.

How Ultion works

The moment that Ultion detects forced entry it activates an attack lock directly into the central cam, this is ‘Lock Down Mode’. Even if the most determined intruder gets past Ultion’s two sacrificial sections he won’t get to the attack lock because it is protected deep inside a solid molybdenum core and secured with a dedicated retaining pin. When Ultion is in Lockdown Mode your home and family are safe.

You’ll also be interested to know that if a break-in occurs as a result of lock snapping, Ultion will give you £1000.

Ticks all the boxes

The Era multi- point lock also comes with the following accreditations to give you added peace of mind:

  • PAS:24 2016 Certified

Independent assessments are carried out which focus on the enhanced security performance of the lock itself.

  • Document Q

This is an approved government specification for the level of security required for all doors and component parts on the market today.

  • Secured By Design Licensed

This is an official UK police initiative which aims to combine “designing out crime” with physical security. Its main objective is to reduce burglary and crime in the UK.
